My hometown Shanghai suffered from severe medical shortage during the pandemic. A friend of mine was taking care of her hospitalized grandmother and told me the hospitals were overcrowded, that many patients have to sleep in corridors without privacy, having to occupy communal space.

This project focuses on easing such problem. Through investigation of ranges of one’s activities, sizes of daily objects, and speculating movable structures, I came up with a potential solution: a multi-function hospital bed.

Span actions like folding, rotating, etc. the basic needs and activities during a 3-5 days hospitalization period can be fulfilled, it can also be fold to 1/4 of original size when unused.
